Our Story

We are two culinary school students that met in school and instantly formed a friendship over our shared passion food.

My love of food came from being in nature growing up. Every weekend my father and I would go out into the woods and hunt, fish, and forage. I didn’t know it then it, but it was that moment that truly inspired my love for food and not just cooking it but being surrounded by where all of our food comes from.

I believe that food has the capabilities to invoke the emotion more than most people realize and I believe that at Understudy we have the capability to do just that. My hope is that when you dine with us you leave with more than just the feeling of satisfied but with a connection and a longing to come dine again.

My love for food comes from my family. For me, food has always been about connection. Growing up, family BBQs, friendly cooking competitions, and the dinners my mom made every night brought us together around the table. No matter how busy life became, she made it a priority for us to share a nutritious meal as a family.

Those meals were about more than food. They were where we told stories, celebrated successes, worked through challenges, and stayed connected. They taught me that great food has the power to bring people together and create meaningful experiences.

That belief is the foundation of Understudy. My goal is to create thoughtful, memorable meals that give people the same opportunity to connect, celebrate, and share moments with the people they care about most.
